Mayor of Jackson
The son of two life-long community activists (the late Mayor Chokwe Lumumba and Nubia Lumumba), Attorney Chokwe Antar Lumumba has a genuine commitment to justice and community development. He is the senior and managing partner of Lumumba and Associates.
Attorney Lumumba received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tuskegee University and his juris doctorate and certificate in sports & entertainment law from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Upon completion of law school, Attorney Lumumba returned to Jackson, Mississippi and began his work as a Junior Associate at Lumumba, Freelon, & Associates where he was promoted to managing attorney and litigated criminal, civil, sports/entertainment cases and pro-bono cases.
Attorney Lumumba’s deep-seated commitment to community expands beyond his career. As a founding member of the Mississippi Human Rights Collective, he co-organized the “Stand Up to Take It Down” rally at the State capitol to remove the confederate insignia from the Mississippi State flag. He serves as the media representative of the Coalition for Economic Justice and is a member of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. He served as media chair for the Jackson People’s Assembly and the late Mayor Lumumba’s City Councilman campaign. He acted as campaign coordinator for his father’s successful bid for Mayor and assisted in co-crafting The People’s Platform. He provided legal service to protect the election of the first black sheriff in Hinds County. He is a member of Free Christian Ministries.
Attorney Lumumba is married to Ebony Lumumba and the couple has one daughter, Alake’ Maryama.
