Who Am I?
Jeff Anderson was born and raised in Ely, and is proud of his roots as a fourth generation Iron Ranger. A graduate of Ely Memorial High School, Anderson joined the Minnesota Army National Guard, where he served for six years as a mechanized infantryman. During this time he also attended college at Bemidji State and the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Anderson has worked in television and radio for the past 16 years. For the past decade he has worked as an advertising executive for a group of regional radio stations. Jeff also owns and operates a small business in Duluth.
Jeff's First Job.
Since 1995, Anderson has helped organize and lead annual tours of our Nation’s capitol for students from Ely High School. In that time, nearly 1,000 students have traveled to Washington DC as a part of this program.
In that same time, he has put his passion for politics to work back home, helping out in various roles on the campaigns for U.S. Senators Paul Wellstone, Amy Klobuchar, and Al Franken, Congressmen Jim Oberstar, State Senators Roger Reinert and Dave Ten Eyck, State Representatives Tom Huntley, Mary Murphy, and Kerry Gauthier, St. Louis County Commissioners Frank Jewell and Bill Kron, St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin, Ely Mayor Roger Skraba, Duluth Mayor Don Ness and Duluth City Councilors Dan Hartman, and Greg Gilbert.
Councilor Jeff Anderson
Councilman Anderson was recognized by the Duluth News Tribune in 2010 as a recipient of the “20 Under 40” award winner. This award honors the work and contributions of people under the age of 40 that help to make the Duluth community great.
Anderson has also served as City Council President of the City of Duluth for the year 2010. He is proud of his work as a current commissioner and former President of the Economic Development Authority in Duluth.
Why Am I Running?
I see the next generation of Northern Minnesota prosperity on the horizon; a prosperity of good jobs that grow our local economies and build a better future and stronger communities. A future that puts people to work and makes Northern Minnesota stronger than it is today.
Republicans in Congress are hindering that prosperity and that is why I am running for Congress. Republican Chip Cravaack has already threatened the security of our seniors by voting to end Medicare. He’s holding our local businesses hostage with political antics and his votes are out of touch with the values and priorities of Northland families. I am challenging him because we need a voice in Washington speaking for us and not for billionaires and big oil.
As a fourth generation Iron Ranger, a public servant, a veteran and a businessman, I know what matters most to people here. We’re all frustrated with partisan political games in St. Paul and Washington. We need leadership that will roll up their sleeves, work hard and work together to get things done. This is what I’ve done all my life. It’s what I’ve done on the Duluth City Council and its what I’ll do as your Congressman.
People are looking for common sense solutions that can help us build a better future and a stronger economy – and most importantly, put people to work! I hope you will explore the next generation of Northern Minnesota prosperity with me by visiting the site again and by supporting my campaign by volunteering or through a financial contribution. Together, we can build a stronger future for Northern Minnesota.
Hold Me Accountable!
Create jobs for Northern Minnesota!
Create jobs for America!
My DFA values:
I will bring the same work ethic and values I brought to the Duluth City Council to Congress. As a councilor I was able to introduce the resolution that passed our cities domestic partnership registry, making Duluth the second city in the state to pass such a resolution.
I also authored and passed a resolution to oppose an anti-marriage equality state constitutional amendment. Duluth was the first city in the State of Minnesota to pass an amendment in support of equality.
I also sponsored and passed a resolution against corporate personhood. I believe by personifying corporations we take away the voice of voters and hand our election process over to corporations and billionaires. This must change.
These are just a few examples of the type of congressman I will be.
My Campaign is People-Powered!
The first thing I would correct is this isn't "my" campaign. This is OUR campaign. This campaign is about bringing people together across this district so WE have representation in congress. Our district lost our voice when Tea Party Representative Chip Cravaack moved to New Hampshire six months into his term. It is time to change that by electing one of us, for us.
We need you to join our team to be successful.
Our campaign consists of High School and College Students, stay at home moms, small business owners, veterans and seniors from across the district. Our team is talking and organizing neighbor to neighbor. This is how we will take back the 8th.
