Terrell Barnes is running for Dupage County Board District 6, to ensure that fiscal responsible, rightsizing government and strategic investment occupy the conversation when it comes to the future of Dupage County. Emphasis will be placed on indentifying possible redundancies, looking for savings and avenues for re-investing revenue to spur economic growth throughout the district and by extension the county.

Why Am I Running?

Roselle, IL-- The last four years has challenged our community. Challenged it in ways that make it easy, and arguable logical, to give up on the process. As I sat back and observed the changes in our community, I could not step back and decided to step up and throw my hat into the ring for the Democratic nomination for Dupage County Board Six.

“After being invited into the homes of over 1,000 Democratic Voters and knocking on over 4,000 doors to talk about the future of the district, my resolve to run was strengthened and renewed. After coming off a close race and a net loss of 45 votes in the Roselle Library Board Race on April 5, 2011, I stayed involved in the local community. I am running to bring my experience as a community advocate to the County Board."

Hold Me Accountable!

In the coming weeks I will be releasing plans which deal with the following:

• Streamlining County Government when it comes to the County Coroner’s Office

• Indentifying duplications and redundancies with respect o the County Clerk and Recorders Office

• Rightsizing the Boards and Commissions appointed by the County Board to remain competitive and transparent

I will deal with each of these issues by identifying smart cuts and avenues for reinvestment to spur economic growth in the county. I will be a candidate in what will shape up to be a competitive Democratic Primary which ends on March 20, 2012. In the coming days I look forward to making this Democratic Primary a conversation about the future and how we will shape the future in the county when I am the nominee.

The newly redrawn District 6 includes all or parts of Aurora, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Naperville, Roselle, St. Charles, Warrenville, Wayne, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield.

My DFA values:

I exhibited DFA values by remaining involved in my community after the outcome of my Library Board Race in April 2011. I never tried to angle with the insiders in the party to decide if I would run for the Dupage County Board #6 seat. I went right to the grassroots in my area and got their feedback and allowed my campaign to grow organically. As a result it lead to talking about the future of the district and eventually filing to run recently.

My Campaign is People-Powered!

Recently I worked on a successful community statewide effort that limited MAP grant funding to For Profit Colleges and Universities. I have also done extensive research work in the area of lobbying and government contracting reform. I wrote a Master thesis on the subject and sold a best seller in the category on Amazon.com.

I want to bring that ability to tackle the big issues in the district, these issues include: flooding, infrastructure, workforce development, community block grants, property taxes, and streamlining the size of county government to add value to the tax payer.
